THE SMART WAY TO ADD BEAUTYCOUNTER TO YOUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS BUSINESS
Does Any of this Sound Familiar?
After all of the time and money invested into your certification, you are finally doing what you love: teaching a method you believe in, helping people improve their lives with mindful movement.
But it’s not everything you dreamed of while logging all those hours of seminars, practice teaching, observation, and study. Because whether you want to admit it or not, it’s hard to make a full time income doing this gig. Whether you are a studio owner or an instructor, you’ve likely faced one (or more) of these issues …
Teaching = trading time for money … yet there are only so many hours in the day you can commit to. Whether it’s another job, your family, or the physical burden of too many classes, there’s a limit to what you can do. And the thought of working MORE and teaching MORE seriously makes you want to curl up and cry.
You desperately want to leave your unfulfilling day job(s) and live the instructor or studio life you always wanted. So you cram every free hour with extra teaching hours, sub every class that fits your schedule, and always volunteer for the weekend classes that no one else wants. But you still don’t have enough money to quit the day job, and you’re not sure if you ever will.
As a studio owner, you often have to wear ALL the hats — front desk, cleaning services, human resources, accountant — not to mention, teach, which is why you opened a studio in the first place! Plus you want to hold on to the instructors you have working for you … while adding quality team members along the way. But everyone needs the same thing: more money.
So How Can You Bring in more Money without Trading more Time?
How can you create more income without sacrificing your physical and mental wellbeing? How do you grow your studio without losing team members or burning yourself out?

THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF…

I completed my Pilates training 5 years ago and have been teaching ever since. I have such a passion for instructing my Pilates and Barre clients, but I can only teach so many hours per day due to my two kids’ busy schedules. I want to be there for all their sporting events and dance performances! Amanda encouraged me to add Beautycounter to my business a little over a year ago, and it’s been huge blessing in our lives. Not only do I have extra money to pay for all those monthly expenses that pop up, but Beautycounter has given me an extra passion to help people live healthier lives. The mission speaks to me personally, as I struggled with unexplained infertility. Beautycounter also was a huge gift to me recently when a Category 5 hurricane destroyed our pilates studio. When that steady teaching income was abruptly taken away, I was able to count on my Beautycounter income to carry me through those stressful months. I highly recommend this opportunity to any fitness instructor. There is no risk, it’s a perfect addition to what we already do, and it’s so much fun!
– CASEY CLARK, Pilates and Barre Instructor
Hey, I’m Amanda!
I completed my first comprehensive Pilates training in 2002 because I wanted a job I could take with me every time my Air Force husband received a new assignment. Eighteen years later, I can tell you that my Pilates career has looked different every place we have lived. I’ve taught in studios, gyms, country clubs, college wellness centers … I’ve owned my own studios … I’ve taught workshops and led teacher trainings … I’ve gone back to school to be a nutritional therapist … I’ve developed an online wellness blog and business … I’ve seen and done it all. But the one thing that kept holding me back was the whole “trading time for money” problem.
I finally found something that fits in our world and makes it better. And I know it works because I’ve been with Beautycounter for over three years now, learning and educating and figuring out how to make this really work for instructors and studio owners. Not only have I added a significant amount of steady income, but I’m helping my clients and community live healthier lives, too.
xo,
Amanda

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to sign up with Beautycounter?
You actually have a choice of a digital enrollment ($50) or a regular enrollment ($98). Your initial investment includes an Enrollment Kit, which includes a personalized website, access to your back office (Behind the Counter), customized training platform and everything else you need to start your business strong. If you choose the regular enrollment, you will also get two hero products, a tote bag, a makeup bag, and lookbooks. Plus all the business bonuses from me to make this really work for instructors and studios.
Do I have to invest in products or inventory?
No, there are no minimum purchases or inventory requirements. In fact, Beautycounter does not allow consultants or businesses to carry inventory! However, I do encourage you to invest in some products to display in studios or for events. I’m happy to chat with you about which products are best for your clientele.
What are the benefits of adding Beautycounter to my business?
Beautycounter Consultants enjoy many benefits, including a 25% discount on all products. The Career Plan pays up to 35% commission on retail sales, plus bonuses and extra commission based on sales and team building. Consultants also have the ability to earn special incentives, including trips, advocacy opportunities, exclusive Beautycounter items, and access to invitation-only events.
Do I have to purchase or sell a certain amount every month?
No! You are not required to purchase anything and there are no monthly minimums. The compensation plan is a pay-for-performance plan, which means that in order to be paid each month, you will need to meet certain requirements. In order to maintain active Consultant status, you must get 1,200 in Qualifying Volume (QV) every six months. This amount includes your personal orders and anything you sell. If you don’t meet the six-month activity requirement, all that happens is you are bumped down to Member status. It’s honestly no big deal! You don’t owe the company anything and can sign right back up for $69 if desired
I’m really busy. How much time do I have to devote to Beautycounter?
I’m not going to feed you a bunch of fake promises that we often see everywhere. You know what I mean — “Sign up for this and the money will start pouring in!” That’s not going to happen. This is a business like any other, so you have to put in some effort to see return. But that being said, it’s not so much about the time as it is the consistency. Very much like exercise, doing a little everyday is much more beneficial than a chunk of time every once in a while. But I also know how little time we all have while juggling our teaching schedules along with family demands and other jobs. So depending on what your financial goal with Beautycounter is ($1000 a month? $5000 a month?), then we can chat and set actionable goals to make that happen. I encourage people to work their way through the consultant training and workbook (maybe 20-30 minutes a day) and utilize the tools I’ve developed for fitness professionals to get the most out of your limited time. Oh and by the way, this work is actually FUN! We get to do this, not have to do this ?
Are the products any good?
Beautycounter products are not only safer but high-performing. We have all used “natural” products that have less than optimal performance, right? Beautycounter products are beautiful and luxurious … and they work. In my experience, once people start using BC products, they become consistent clients. The product line is vast (skincare, makeup, kids and baby, sunscreen, body care) and continues to grow. Plus, these are consumable products that people consistently use and replenish. We are providing a safer option for items they are already using. We aren’t asking people to add anything new, just swap what they are currently using for healthier option.
Is Beautycounter a MLM?
I’ll be straight with you — YES and NO. It’s probably different from the MLM companies we have all had negative encounters with. Beautycounter is a direct retail company that sells through multiple channels, to include consultants, select pop-up shops and stores, and strategic partnerships. Gregg Renfrew, CEO and founder, chose this model because Beautycounter’s story and education are best told person-to-person. If it was just another product on the shelf at Sephora, the mission of getting safer products into the hands of everyone would be lost in the shuffle.
True MLMs do not offer other ways to purchase products except through its distributors, and building a team is required. With Beautycounter, you can choose to only run your business as an affiliate if you prefer.
Honestly, the world is quickly becoming a direct-to-consumer marketplace. Thanks to online companies such as Amazon and Thrive, people are doing their shopping online. And as far as the team compensation issue, most of us are used to that pay structure as fitness instructors anyway. The independent contractor situation is very similar, but this allows everyone the opportunity to build teams if he or she chooses to do so.
Will I be pressured to build a team?
No. Not at all. You can earn significant income solely with personal sales. However, people are drawn to this mission and you may build a team without even trying! Plus, we as fitness professionals often already have a team/ cadre of other instructors who either teach for us or work in the same circles. You may want to extend this opportunity to them — because you want to share a great gig with them! Not only is it more fun to work with a team, you also have the potential to earn more income.
Do I have to spam my social media feeds with company propaganda or cold message everyone on my FB friends list?
NO. Just no. If someone had told me I needed to do this when I signed up, I would have run for the hills. I’m here to ensure you can build this side business without any of those gross practices we have seen people do over the years.
How do I get past my uneasy feelings about MLMs?
Ugh, right? We all feel that way. But don’t let those people who have run a great business model the WRONG way ruin the opportunity for YOU. Not only is Beautycounter different because at its core is a mission of education and advocacy, but this company needs wellness professionals like us to spread this message. Not enough people know about these important health issues. We don’t need to chase people because we already have clients coming to us — people who trust us, look to us for guidance, and know that we place great value on overall wellness.
What happens if Beautycounter isn’t a good fit for me?
Hey, life happens. If Beautycounter doesn’t provide good juju and benefits for you, no worries. You can either contact the company to end your consultant status, or just enjoy the discount until your 6 month period ends. Once you compress, you will just bump down to membership status and enjoy those rewards. You don’t owe the company any money or products or anything. And if you ever change your mind, you can sign back up for $69, no questions asked.
This sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch?
The one thing I wish I could go back and tell myself when I was questioning whether or not to join is this: THERE IS NO CATCH. There is no risk, only possibility. Think of it as a 6-month trial period to see if it’s a good fit for you. Worst case, you get a discount on some great safer products. Best case, endless opportunity. I mean, why not? You have nothing to lose and so much to gain.
Ever since I completed my Pilates training, I have wanted to own a studio. That dream came true almost 5 years ago when I purchased Pilates and More. While it has been incredibly rewarding, it is also really hard work to stay profitable and ensure my instructors are getting paid their worth. Not to mention that the daily stressors can sometimes steal the joy of teaching that inspired my Pilates career in the first place. I wanted to find something to help our bottom line that would benefit our clientele but not require a huge upfront investment. Beautycounter has given me the ability to bring in more income for myself and my instructors, create fun reasons to bring more people to the studio, and restored my love for teaching. I can choose the hours I want to teach and know that I’m bringing in residual income every month even when I’m not at the studio. Beautycounter’s mission has become a part of our studio and we are all grateful for the opportunities it has afforded us.
