Whether you’re fighting against a virus (flu, COVID-19 or other) or simply wanting to boost your immune system for overall health, this is the nutrient-dense green smoothie for you.
And here’s the thing… this has been my go-to smoothie for YEARS! My family loves it for the delicious treat it is… I love it for being chock full of good stuff.
But since learning more about the current pandemic we’re facing (Corona Virus) it’s EXTRA good! SIDE NOTE: Hopefully if you’re reading this in the future, you’ll only have to drink this smoothie to boost your immune system IN GENERAL… not as an additional line of defense against like this viral monster… but I digress.)
Let’s talk about WHY this smoothie is so good for our bodies right now!
In no particular order the ingredients are spinach, kale, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon, mango, MCT and/or coconut oil, collagen peptides, filtered water.
And here’s why those ingredients matter…
Colorful Fruits and Veggies:
We all know about eating the rainbow, right? Well not only are these foods full of phytonutrients that have antiviral properties, but they have fiber to feed the good gut bacteria AND escort excess toxins our of the body. SPINACH, KALE, CUCUMBER, CELERY, APPLE, LEMON, & MANGO all fit the bill!
Amino Acids: Glycine, Cysteine, and Glutamine:
These amino acids are necessary for the production of glutathione which is our bodies’ master antioxidant and critical component of detoxification. Poor lifestyle choices, stress, and age can deplete glutathione, which can lead to disease in many forms. So boosting it with food (and exercise) is incredibly helpful to the immune system. Spinach is a wonderful source of glycine and cysteine. COLLAGEN PEPTIDES are a great source of glutamine and glycine.
Vitamin C:
We all know this one, right? Vitamin C is an antioxidant and can help reduce inflammation. Also, vitamin C is often depleted in times of stress. In this smoothie, KALE, LEMON, CELERY and MANGO are all good sources of Vitamin C.
Vitamin A:
This is a fat-soluble vitamin that does a whole lot of stuff, including maintaining immune health. While the best sources of Vitamin A are in the active form (retinol) which include meats, eggs, and dairy, this smoothie contains beta carotene sources which first must be converted to retinol in the body. They include SPINACH, MANGO and CELERY.
Healthy Fats:
We need healthy fats for SO many things! In regards to immunity, fats are necessary for healthy cell membranes, for our healing processes to work properly, to keep inflammation levels healthy, to keep our liver working properly, and for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E & K. I use MCT OIL and/or COCONUT OIL in this smoothie.
Collagen Peptides:
Builds and maintains a healthy gut barrier and supports a healthy immune system. Since 70-80% of the immune system resides in the gut, you can see why gut health is so important. The glutamine and glycine in collagen peptides are essential for healthy digestion and for a healthy gut lining. Glutamine also speeds healing after infection and most illnesses due to its involvement in both cellular turnover and repair, as well as the stimulation of immune cells.
Filtered Water:
Hydration is crucial to a healthy body. It does so many things, but I’ll point out a few that are especially important right now: water transports nutrients, removes wastes, flushes toxins, and empowers the body’s natural healing process. Hydration comes from the FILTERED WATER and CUCUMBER in this smoothie.

Corona Crusher Recipe:
Ingredients:
- Handful of fresh spinach
- Handful of fresh kale
- About 2 inches of cucumber slices
- 1 or 2 celery stalks
- 1/3 to 1/2 apple, sliced
- Generous slice of lemon with rind
- 1 cup frozen mango
- 1 scoop collagen peptides
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon MCT oil
- 1 cup filtered water, cold
Instructions:
- Throw all ingredients in a high powered blender.
- Blend until smooth, at least one minute.
- Pour into a mason jar to appear extra healthy and crunchy.
- Sip with a metal or paper straw for added sustainable effect.
